Mitchell School Expansion - Exciting News!

This past week The Board of Education approved an expansion of Mitchell School that will add classroom space for our developing International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme! This is expansion will be ready for the fall of 2016 and seats will be available for new students at all grade levels. Please share this exciting news!

PHOTO: First Graders Inquire About Beaver Dams

From Sonali Deshpande, First Grade Teacher:
Mrs.Deshpande's first grade class figuring out how beavers build a dam. Upon their reflection, they realized that mud is really important. It keeps all the sticks together so that the water doesn't go through. They used sand, real sticks, Popsicle sticks and gravel. They tested their dam with real water. Success!

After the activity, I heard many students say "that was the best!" Or "I never knew mud was so important!" Or "beavers are so cool!"

PHOTO: Fifth Grade Energy Unit Update

From the 5th grade teachers:
As part of the launching of International Baccalaureate units, Mitchell 5th graders have been inquiring into energy use and sources of energy.

To synthesize their learning, students used an app called "Piktochart" to create infographics (as seen below).  Next week they will use their infographics to share their work and determine how to make wise energy choices.

From Mr. Karr and Mr. Hilton:  Awesome!  It is great to see our future IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programme students making connections to the community world and finding "real" ways to express and apply learning.
