Neighborhood Traffic and Speeding

Dear Mitchell Families,

As you drive your children to and from school, please be mindful of the following:

·       Follow all posted speed limit signs within our neighborhoods. Many families use Fernwood and Lorraine as the access roads to Mitchell. Please be safe and follow the speed limits signs.

·       Be mindful of idling engines at drop off and pick up.If you're waiting awhile, shutting engines off helps to reduce emissions.

·       As you arrive for pick up, please do not block the neighborhood driveways

Working together, we can be safe during pick up and drop off while also being good neighbors with the residents who live near Mitchell. If you have questions, I'm happy to talk with you.

Thank you!

Matt

AAPS Bus Tracker App

The Ann Arbor Public Schools is excited to share news with those students and parents that utilize district-provided bus service. Our school bus partner, Durham School Services has provided an application, Bus Tracker, that allows parents and guardians to view the location of their child(ren)'s bus in real time with relationship to their assigned bus stop. This application is available through a web browser or the app stores. Bus Tracker enables parents and guardians to view multiple stops on an assigned route, including the scheduled arrival time for each stop. The service is free of charge to parents/guardians and provided at no additional cost to the school districts serviced by Durham School Services. Use of the application is voluntary.

For more information, to sign-up and create your secure login, or to use the application on your smartphone or web browser, please go to:

Early Release Day – Wednesday, September 25

All AAPS elementary students will be released at 1:29 PM on Wednesday, September 25. All teachers will participate in professional development in the afternoon. Please plan to pick your child up on this day at 1:29 PM. Lunch will be served as normal. Buses routes will run as normal on this day and will depart Mitchell by 1:40 PM.

Late Morning Arrivals

We are noticing many students who are arriving late to school. As a reminder, the bell rings at 8:56. Please make sure children are dropped off for school on time. Late student arrivals cause disruptions to classrooms when kids and teachers have already begun their day of learning. Please do your very best to have your children to school on time.

Thank you for help,
Matt

Parents/Guardians Visiting During The School Day

I want to take a moment and reinforce our safety procedures for entering the building. We are safest when we work together, go slowly and look out for one another. Please know:

Entering the Building

When requesting entrance, parents and guests will stand in front of the camera and press the buzzer to signal their request. The main front door and the main rear door have a buzzer & camera system. These are the only two doors in which you can enter. Please press the buzzer and be prepared to share why you're visiting school. If the office staff does not immediately answer the buzzer, please be patient and they will be with you shortly.

Guests and visitors should then go immediately to the office to sign in and wear a visitor's sticker.

I want to make sure that our parent community feels welcome and encouraged to visit school. I also want to make sure we provide a safe and secure environment for children. To do that, I need your help with these procedures. If you have questions, I'd be happy to talk with you.

Parking Lot Safety - Parent Drop-Off & Pick-Up

If you drive your child to school and/or pick them up at the end of the day, please follow the posted signs around the school.

PULL FORWARDin the front drive - pull as far forward as possible so others can pull forward too. Your child will exit the car on the curb side only. Stop – Kiss – Drop Off – Go.  J

NO PARKINGin the front drive.  Stay in your car.

NO PARKING on the south side of Lorraine in the afternoon. This is the pick-up line. Parking in the neighborhood or in the Scarlett lot is fine.

PATIENCE: Please be patient. We will do this as quickly as possible. Student safety is our first priority.

Parking at Mitchell

There are some parking spots available in front of Mitchell School.  Additional parking is available in the Scarlett parking lot behind Mitchell School. Please DO NOT park in the front circle drive - ever. Parked cars create a traffic flow problem that can cause unsafe situations.

If you need to enter the building, please park in a parking space in one of our lots. Do not double park and block others in.You can park in the Scarlett lot in the back, in the front Mitchell lot or in the neighborhood. Thank you for your help!
