World Language Update - February 2015

Marhaba!
The Arabic language students continue to work diligently as we are ending the month of February. Students can name many things in the classroom and can communicate with me using short phrases and familiar vocabulary that we have been studying since the beginning of the year. This month, our focus is on describing things around us by colors, size and shapes. By the end of next month students will create their first Arabic book about "Things in The Classroom".
Students continue to be enthusiastic about learning Arabic. They love to greet me with a smile in the hall with "Marhaba" and "Keef Alhal?" They love to sing in Arabic and the fun does not stop here!

Hola!
February flew by and we are well into our next units in Spanish!
Kindergarten through second grade learned clothing words, and we are now working on a numbers book that reviews our color words, number words, fruit vocabulary, and clothing vocabulary!
Third grade finished up their weather unit and made great posters about the weather in each season!  We are now working on description words and being able to say what we, and others, look like.
Fourth grade finished up their family unit by making family trees!  We are now working on body part vocabulary.
After our school locations and directions unit in fifth grade, we moved onto sports and hobbies.  The students are learning the vocabulary and culture behind some of the most popular sports.  We will also learn how to share our likes and dislikes about these sports and hobbies.

I traveled to Mexico over winter break and enjoyed the chance to practice my Spanish!  I was also able to take several pictures and bring back a few artifacts that I will be sharing as we continue to learn the language and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
I am excited for the remainder of the year and the rest of the learning we will be doing!

Questions, comments, or concerns, please email me!
