Happy Thanksgiving!
As I look forward to the Thanksgiving break, I want to express my thanks and gratitude for the children who attend Mitchell School, for the families who entrust us with their care, for the teachers who choose to work at Mitchell, and for the community members who contribute to our school. We have a wonderful learning community that includes the strengths of diversity, compassion, caring and excellence. I see this everyday through the interactions of students, staff and families at Mitchell.
We are also a learning community that is working toward becoming an IB World School. Our work toward becoming an IB school brings the very best teaching and learning practices in the world to Mitchell, Scarlett, and Huron. These teaching and learning practices include:
-An inquiry model of teaching and learning where students ask questions, seek answers and take action
-An emphasis on action; students using what they've learned to impact their world
-The development of global awareness; students connecting to local, national, and global perspectives and issues through curriculum connections
-You can find more information about our development at: http://ib.a2schools.org
Finally, Mitchell School is home to exceptional teachers who work very hard to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all children. I feel very lucky to be a member of this learning community and I wish you all a restful Thanksgiving holiday filled with joy!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Matt & Kevin

International Baccalaureate Update – From Mrs. Rothman
Students are learning about the Learner Profile in their classrooms in many ways. Each IB Unit of Inquiry has two specific Learner Profile attributes associated with it. An example: fourth graders are studying how communities are defined by governments, focusing on the attributes principled and knowledgeable. In this fourth grade Unit, students are learning the ways in which citizens of a community behave in principled ways. They are also learning about how important it is for citizens to be knowledgeable.
Mitchell School Community Safety
At the Mitchell PTO meeting this week, a parent shared that her middle school child was verbally harassed by a driver on Platt while walking home. I'm sharing this with our community to build an awareness of this occurrence and I'm asking that we all continue to keep a lookout for our children. The extra eyes and ears make all the difference to our community. If you see/hear this type of behavior, please inform the school office. Thank you.
Report Cards Sent Home - November 22
Student report cards will be sent home on Tuesday, November 22. This is an opportunity to talk with your child about their learning and celebrate growth. It's also an opportunity to set improvement goals. If you have questions, please talk with your child's teacher.

PTO Meeting - Tuesday, 11/16 @ 6 PM
Mitchell PTO Message:
Good morning, Mustangs, let's hold one another closer this week and show the world our respect for one another and our love of education and our community. Thank you all for being your unique selves, I couldn't be happier that my family is part of such a diverse, strong and supportive group at Mitchell. Last Friday's Movie Night was a wonderful reminder that we can always come together and enjoy each other's company. As JK Rowling wrote, "Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open."
This week there are a few more opportunities for the adults in the Mitchell community to get together. On Tuesday night at 6 to 7 the November PTO meeting is being held. Please come, all voices are welcome!
We are also recruiting volunteers to help run the Holiday Shop. All classes in the school will have a chance to browse and buy, and the shop will also be open to the after school crowd. Sign up for as many spots as your schedule allows!

The IB Learner Profile is a set of traits that describe good learning behavior and the skills students need to become active, global citizens. You might consider posting it on your refrigerator! You can find the learner profile by clicking HERE.
