IB Informational Meetings - 5/5, 7 PM @ Huron; 5/13, 7 PM @ Scarlett


Families interested in enrolling in the future Ann Arbor International Baccalaureate (IB) schools for the fall of 2015, are invited to learn about this exceptional offering at the following locations and times (before the Schools of Choice window closes):
·      Tuesday, May 5 at 7 PM – Huron High School in the Meyer Auditorium
·      Wednesday, May 13 at 7 PM – Scarlett Middle School in the media center

The presentation will include:
·      An “IB 101” presentation on the basics of the international educational opportunities being developed in Ann Arbor
AND
·      Time to meet and ask questions to our IB trained principals and teachers.

MSTEP Information

Fourth grade students will begin taking the MSTEP Test the week of April 27 and third grade students will start in mid-May. The MSTEP test replaces the old MEAP test and is required by the State of Michigan for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. If you have questions please contact Mr. Hilton or Mr. Karr at 997.1216. 

5th Grade Instrumental Music Concert

The fifth grade instrumental music concert will be held on Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 pm. Please come enjoy the show! 

Free Food Distribution - 5/2/15

Free food is available for Mitchell families Saturday, May 2 from 9:30-11:00. All Mitchell families who need food are invited to come to Mitchell school for a free food giveaway. This free food distribution will happen the first Saturday of each month. A one-time registration process is required to verify household members. If you registered at a previous event, you will not have to register again.

 

Note: To be clear, this is only available to Mitchell School families at this time.

Mitchell Family Talent Show

For those students who have returned interest forms, practice begins the week of April 27. The Talent Show will be Friday, May 29 at 6:30 pm. Thank you to Christine Payne for organizing and leading the talent show!

El Sistema Concert

On Wednesday, April 22 at 6:00 pm the fifth grade students who participate in the El Sistema Music Program will be performing at the University of Michigan STAMPS Auditorium. The kids have been working very hard all year long and this concert will showcase their skills! Thank you to Mr. Tolly and the team from the University of Michigan for all their work this year.

Kindergarten: What It's Really Like! - Thursday, May 7, 2015 @ 6:30-8:00 PM

Do you have a child entering Kindergarten this Fall? Round Up's share a lot of information yet you may still wonder what your child's day will really be like. This annual presentation brings together AAPS kindergarten teachers and support staff to share details about the curriculum. We offer suggestions for activities so everyone's ready for the first day and share ideas for summer programs that will support that readiness. This presentation is free and designed for adults only.

Ann Arbor Public Schools Superintendent Jeanice Swift to Host Five Community Meetings On the May 5 Bond Proposal

Ann Arbor Public Schools Superintendent Jeanice Swift will host five community meetings this month to share information about the bond proposal appearing on the May 5 ballot. 

Each community meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the following locations:

·       Tuesday, April 14,  Slauson Middle School, Media Center

·       Thursday, April 16, Tappan Middle School, Media Center

·       Tuesday, April 21, Scarlett Middle School, Media Center

·       Thursday, April 23,  Clague Middle School, Media Center

·       Thursday, April 30, Forsythe Middle School, Media Center

Superintendent Swift encourages all citizens to attend and learn more about the proposal and have the opportunity to ask questions.


The bond proposal would raise $33 million for capital improvements across the district's 32 buildings, while keeping the millage rate at or below the current 2.45 mills for taxpayers.  Improvements in the plan include security upgrades at school entrances, new musical instruments, the replacement of more than 100 buses over five years, and new furniture and other upgrades in classrooms across the district.
