Mitchell School, Coolest School On Earth: Fourth Grade Promotional Videos - Part 1

Fourth graders at Mitchell School, in collaboration with the University of Michigan School of Education, have created Mitchell School promotional videos.  These videos were created to persuade families in our community that Mitchell School is the coolest school on Earth!

The videos below premiered on February 6, 2013 at a gala community event including representatives from many groups of Ann Arbor including our fabulous students and parents, teachers, Board of Education members, professors from the UM School of Education, UM interns, as well as reporters from several Ann Arbor news agencies.

Used Book Sale Donor Thank You!

This past week, the Mitchell School PTO held their semi-annual book fair fundraiser . . . and each student left the fair with at least one book from the gently used section of the book fair.

It is our hope that each student took their book home this past weekend to read and enjoy - more than once!  We are also hoping to continue to supply students with books for them to build their "personal library" at home.  This is important because we know that the more students read (and enjoy reading), the more they are likely to learn. Parents - please consider helping your child find a special place for them to keep their books for their library.

The books children received were made possible with the help and donations of several generous Friends of Mitchell School including:
  • Joanie Binkow
  • Nell K. Duke
  • Dan Chapman
  • Louise Lutton
  • Helen and Noah Kaplan
  • Mary Anne Drew
  • Ellen Rambo, Tim and Charlie Markel
  • Charles Reinhart Company Realtors

Parent Involvement Day - Monday, February 11 - Come To School!

Dear Mitchell School Parents,

All parents are invited to be a part of Mitchell's plans as we observe National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) on Monday, February 11, 2013.

What is NAAPID?

NAAPID is a national call to action to get all parents, but particularly those of African American children, more involved in the education of their children. It is expected that this national observation will open up dialogue among teachers, parents, and students, which will lead to a more conducive learning environment for all students.

What happens during NAAPID?
Parents are invited to be a part of the school day at Mitchell.  This includes being a part of your child's classes—even the noon hour.  You might want to bring a sack lunch and eat with your child during lunch.

Also, the Mitchell staff will set up a hospitality table with refreshments.  Please stop by and enjoy the treats!

We hope to see many, many families at Mitchell School on February 11.

Sincerely,
Kevin Karr and the Mitchell School NAAPID Committee
