Mrs. Hudson's Biography

Interviewed by Tony P.
Mrs. Hudson is a reading intervention teacher at Mitchell. She has worked at Mitchell for 7 years. Before this, Mrs. Hudson taught in Baltimore, MD and Ypsilanti, MI. When Mrs. Hudson was a kid, she loved to play outside with her two brothers. She would build forts and play in the mud. Mrs. Hudson is married and has a daughter and a son.

Ms. Padgen's Biography

Ms. Padgen teaches 2nd grade at Mitchell Elementary. She has worked at Mitchell for 5 years. Before coming to Mitchell, she taught environmental education. Ms. Padgen grew up in a small town in Illinois where she loved to play outside with her brother and sister. Today she lives in Dexter with her husband and son, Kai. When she is not teaching, she loves running, gardening, and playing outside. Her favorite animal is a salamander.

Mrs. Thompson's Biography

Mrs. Thompson is a kindergarten teacher at Mitchell Elementary. She grew up in Canton, Michigan. When Mrs. Thompson was a kid, she loved sports, especially gymnastics. She did gymnastics everyday from when she was 5 years old until she was 18 years old! Mrs. Thompson's favorite thing to teach is writing because it goes into everything we do and we use it everywhere. This is her 20th year at Mitchell. Mrs. Thompson is married to Kipper and has a wild black cat named Blackie.

Science Olympiad Update - from coordinator Sarah McCallum

Dear Parents:

In case you are interested, in the rankings for Mitchell School's first ever Science Olympiad experience, Mitchell School placed in the top 10 in five of the 15 events we competed in, and in the top 5 for 2nd Grade Mystery Architecture!

I am so proud of our students and I know that with your help, next year will be even better.

Drew Jackson and Ted Lee - 5th Place Medal - Science Olympiad!

Rec & Ed Survey

Dear Parent/Guardian, Principal or School Staff,

I invite you to participate in this short survey regarding Rec&Ed after school  programming. Our goal is to offer classes at each school that are of interest and benefit to your children.

Mrs. Deshpande's Biography

Mrs. Deshpande is a 1st grade teacher at Mitchell Elementary. She grew up in Toronto, Canada. She had to go back to school to become a teacher because she did a different job first. Mrs. Deshpande has 2 daughters named Sansara and Gita. She also has a dog named Scooby. 
As part of the second grade writing curriculum, Ms. Padgen’s class completed a non-fiction writing unit focused on writing biographies about the Mitchell Staff.   This project, led by Ms. Sala, a U-M teaching intern, gave students an opportunity to practice these skills by developing interview questions, conducting and recording interviews, and returning to the recorded interviews to gather information for writing.

Ms. Millie's Biography

Ms. Millie is the custodian at Mitchell School. Her favorite thing about her job is to be with kids at Mitchell. She also enjoyed working with bigger kids at Tappan Middle School.
She grew up in New York. As a child she liked to play hide and seek with other kids. Ms. Millie speaks English and Spanish. She wants to learn Portuguese.

Mr. Tolly's Biography

Mr. Tolly is a music teacher at Mitchell. Mr. Tolly’s favorite thing about his job is sharing composers, songs, stories and finding people to talk with. Before, he worked at Ann Arbor Open School. Mr. Tolly has a mom, a dad, and three siblings, two younger brothers and one sister. He liked to play baseball and kick the can when he was a kid. His favorite movie is “Remembering Forest”.  Mr. Tolly makes Mitchell special because he teaches songs, music, and shares instruments and movie clips together.

Ms. K's Biography

Ms. K is a kindergarten teacher at Mitchell. She likes the kids and has worked at Mitchell for 6 years. She grew up in Ann Arbor, MI. When Ms. K. was a kid, she liked to take her stuffed animals and put them on her bed and play teacher. She doesn’t have any children. Her favorite animal is a dog. Ms. K. makes Mitchell special because she is very nice to kids.

Ms. Reader's Biography

Ms. Reader is the Mitchell and Dicken Elementary Library Teacher. She has been married for 7 years. She loves art and reading. She is very nice. She worked at Mitchell for 1 year. Ms. Reader makes Mitchell special because she helps kids look for books and she smiles when kids are talking to her.

Mr. Krigbaum's Biography

Mr. Krigbaum teaches fifth grade at Mitchell. He worked at Angell Elementary before Mitchell. His favorite thing about his job is to see kids from the past back when they are older. Mr. Krigbaum grew up in Ann Arbor. When he was a kid he had big woods he played games in. He has a chocolate lab puppy named Roder. Mr. Krigbaum makes Mitchell special because he teaches about animals.

Ms. Lindeman's Biography

Ms. Lindeman is the gym teacher at Mitchell School. She became a teacher at Eastern Michigan University. The best part of her job is getting to see kids at school. Ms. Lindeman grew up in Belleville, Michigan. As a kid she liked to ride her bike  and go swimming. She has 3 children of her own. Ms. Lindeman makes Mitchell special because she is a good gym teacher.

Mr. Bell is a fourth grade teacher at Mitchell Elementary School. He has worked at Mitchell for three years. Before Mitchell, he worked at Dicken Elementary School for ten years. Mr. Bell has one son. His son is four years old. His name is Gabe. Mr. Bell has a dog named Cooper. Mr. Bell makes Mitchell special because he is my brother’s teacher, he is nice and he is fun!

Mr. Hamilton's Biography

Mr. Hamilton is a 2nd grade teacher at Mitchell Elementary School. His favorite thing to teach is reading because it is something you can enjoy all your life. When he was a student teacher he worked at a different school. As a kid he grew up in Tennessee. As a kid his favorite things to do were riding his bike, wandering and exploring. And he has a pet turtle who is turning 22 years old. It lives in the classroom.

Mr. Hilton is a reading intervention teacher at Mitchell Elementary. Mr. Hilton’s favorite thing is reading with kids and learning to read. He worked at 4 different elementary schools. He grew up in a little town called Grand Haven, Michigan. He likes sports and his favorite sports are basketball and baseball and spending time with friends. He likes to spend time with family and his kids and going swimming and jogging. Mr. Hilton makes Mitchell special because he helps kids read and is really nice.

Mrs. Nelson is a Teacher Consultant at Mitchell Elementary. Before she worked at Mitchell her first job was at McDonalds. She babysat, she really got good at it and she really liked kids. Mrs. Nelson grew up in New Boston, MI. She is married. She lives close to her family and she has 1 son, he is 23 years old. She had 2 dogs but they died. Mrs. Nelson makes Mitchell special because she is really nice.

Mrs. Roberts is a speech teacher. She likes to teach kids to listen and kids to talk better. Mrs. Roberts has taught at Mitchell for 7 months. Mrs. Roberts grew up in Gardner, Massachusetts. Ms. Faison's Biography

Ms. Faison is a 3rd grade teacher at Mitchell Elementary. Her favorite thing about her job is she loves people from the whole world! Before she worked at a school called Pattengill. She grew up in Pennsylvania really far away. Ms. Faison loved to read when she was little. She played the violin, she even liked to roller skate. She doesn’t have any children. She has a cat called Remedy, he is 15 years old! She makes Mitchell special because she gives fun waves.
